Code of Conduct

Introduction

I am committed to maintaining Looking for Faith as a safe and welcoming place for discussion. Most of the comments on Looking for Faith have been respectful and constructive, and I very much enjoy corresponding with participants on the site.

However, it is essential for communities to have expectations for conduct stated clearly and enforced. Based on my experience managing this site, reflection upon the intention of this site, and research into how other sites are managed, I have decided upon the following Code of Conduct for Looking for Faith.

Code of Conduct

All comments are expected to be:

* Respectful of the participants in the discussion.
* Related to the topic at hand.

Comments containing any of the following will be removed from Looking for Faith:

* Content that abuses, harasses, degrades, stalks or threatens others (this includes but is not limited to speech that abuses, harasses, degrades, stalks or threatens an individual or group based on their gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income level, physical characteristics, religion or other similar distinctions).
* Content that violates reasonable expectations of privacy.
* Content that advances an agenda irrelevant to the content being discussed.
* Content that is spam.
* Content that includes gratuitous profanity, or contains slurs.
* Content that incites violence.
* Content that for any other reason I deem to be inappropriate for this site.

Due to the importance of maintaining Looking for Faith as a safe and welcoming site, I have decided to apply this policy retroactively, as well as to all future comments.

Update 7/25/08: Please do not discuss the UUA presidential election on this site. I will be remaining neutral throughout the campaign, and have not and will endorse any candidate. I have decided that the best way for me to maintain this blog as a neutral space is to delete all past and future comments related to the election. If you are looking for information about the election, please contact the Unitarian Universalist Association. Thank you for understanding and respecting this policy.
