Bio
I have been interested in spirituality throughout my life, although I did not grow up in a particular religious tradition. About six years ago, I discovered Unitarian Universalism, and I have been hooked ever since!
My academic background is in the study of religion. I have a bachelor of arts from Harvard College in the Comparative Study of Religion, and a master of divinity from Harvard Divinity School.
Work and volunteer experiences have helped me to gain a deeper understanding of religious life. I have worked as a research assistant for sociologists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, who are studying the role of religion in contemporary America, and as the national organizer for Promise the Children, a Unitarian Universalist nonprofit. At my congregation, the First Parish in Cambridge, I have served as chair of the Worship Committee, as founder of the campus ministry program, and as a leader in the young adult group. I also guest preach at Unitarian Universalist congregations around Massachusetts.
Relationships with family, friends, colleagues and members of my congregation are important to me. I am married to my best friend, Shai Sachs. Shai is a great progressive blogger.
Shai and I own a website development business, with a subdivision called Welcoming Websites that specializes in websites for religious organizations.
We enjoy living in Cambridge, Massachusetts (at least during the nine months of the year that it is above 32 degrees outside).
I also work at the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) as the public witness specialist. However, Looking for Faith is a personal (not professional) blog. It is in no way sponsored by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the UUA. When I write on this blog, I am speaking only for myself, and am not speaking on behalf of the UUA.
I have created Looking for Faith to explore spiritual questions and issues from a Unitarian Universalist perspective. I very much enjoy hearing from readers. Please don’t hesitate to e-mail me with feedback, questions, or suggestions.
