Sharing Joy by Doing Something We Love

If you’re coming to the end of a long week like me and need a little boost, read UUMomma’s “You’ve Got to Dance When the Spirit Says Dance.” She describes attending an elementary school concert recently where the audience was uplifted by the singing and dancing of a small student, who performed with “a sense of joy.” This joy was contagious:

As tired as I wanted to be in that crowded room, this performance gave everyone present a moment of bliss that could only energize, could only engage, could only inspire.

It’s hard to ignore Spirit when she speaks so clearly through the dance of a first-grader.

The story is a reminder to me that when each of us engages fully in a positive activity that we love to do, we can give others joy too.

That’s such a good point. It spoke to me about how comfortable it is to be with someone who can express herself without inhibition too. Sometimes kids look really uncomfortable in those performances, and this seemed like the opposite of that.

    You’re welcome, uuMomma.

Ms. Theologian, yes, this is an important insight. It is can be so calming to be around someone who feels at home in her own skin, and the reverse is true as well.
