<description>The full title of the new Study/Action issue for the Unitarian Universalist Association is "Ethical Eating: Food and Environmental Justice."

The statement developed from projects at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth, on Cape Cod, in Massachusetts.
Rich Barlow, one of the "Boston Globe" staff writers, prepared a "Globe" article about the congregation and its food-related interests... The Barlow article was published on April 21, 2007, and you'll find it at the "Globe" website and at other places that are easy to access.

It's an unusual Study/Action issue for several reasons.... Lots and lots of emphasis on congregational action and religious reflection in a multifaith context.... Traditional environmental protection concerns receive attention but "environmental justice" is in the title and economic justice is a big concern.

Van Jones - who delivered the Ware Lecture at the 2008 General Assembly - has helped to introduce "environmental justice" themes to many Unitarian Universalists. "Ethical Eating: Food and Environmental Justice" reflects some of Van Jones' influence.... Also, take a look at the 1994 GA resolution called "Environmental Justice."</description>
