Seven Principles Resources (Along with Tips on Kissing and Christmas Cards)
Category: Uncategorized
Hello friends. As I have been researching for a post on the second principle — which is coming along slowly — I came across several interesting pages on the Seven Principles.
“How to Understand the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism”
This one surprised me. It’s on a secular website, and is written by an author who also covers such diverse topics as “How to French Kiss” and “How to Create Corporate Christmas Cards.” His piece on the Seven Principles is thoughtful and inspiring.
“Principles and Purposes”
Rev. Patricia Tummino, of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Middleboro, offers sermons on each of the seven principles. She had my rapt attention from the second paragraph on, both with her stories and her theological ideas.
“The Dialogue Between Contemporary Western Buddhism and Unitarian Universalism”
This UU Sangha article, entitled walks through each of the seven principles and compares them to Vipassana and Hua-Yen Buddhism as understood in the United States. The article is short, so that you may be left wanting to learn more. Luckily the Unitarian Universalist Buddhist Fellowship offers additional resources on the relationship between Unitarian Universalism and Buddhism.
Note: I made a correction to this article on 4.15.07. I had originally stated that Tummino’s sermon on the second principle was written shortly after 9.11, but this was incorrect. Margo McKenna’s sermon on the second principle, which I read at the same time as Tummino’s, was written in October of 2001.
