Prayer of Gratitude

Prayer is an opportunity to celebrate life, even in moments of doubt and disappointment. Prayers of gratitude focus our attention on the good things in the world.

Kathleen Rolenz’s “Prayer for the Installation of a Minister” is a Unitarian Universalist prayer of gratitude. This is her opening verse:

“Spirit of Life, known to us in beginnings and endings,
In possibilities and promises
We give thanks for all that has led to this moment,
And all that is yet to come.”

These words lifted my heart. You can read the full text of Rolenz’s prayer at UUA Worship Web. She wrote this prayer for a very specific situation–the installation of a new minister. But I found myself feeling thankful for the blessings in my life — new beginnings, meaningful role models, and a strong community — as I read it.
