Prayer and Awareness

Rev. Parisa Parsa tells it like it is on her blog pastor prayers. She describes prayer as potentially unsettling, bringing to the surface doubts and regrets. As I read her piece, I reflected on many times that I have prayed and also felt an uneasy awareness of my mistakes in life. Prayer is a journey into awareness, and that awareness can be by turns frustrating, frightening, inspiring and uplifting. Prayer is a passage to God that takes us through difficult feelings, rather than around them. As Rev. Parsa writes, it’s enough to make one “want to go shopping or eat something or watch an E! True Hollywood Story rather than return to prayer and be vulnerable and stay with it.” But I found that after reading her reflections on prayer, the beautiful as well as the frustrating aspects, I was moved to go pray. Thanks, Rev. Parsa!

Thanks for sharing this. I need reminders and encouragement to take the time to pray.
